I remember sitting in a room at Redmond years ago explaning to a VB PM (it think it was Amanda) that the only type of Data Access solution they should pursue is one where the Data Access code is non-existent.

Now we're using queries manifested directly in the language to create a business object instead of a dataset.

One step forward but another step back.

I'm beginning to think that:

1. nTier was a temporary stepping stone and is soon becoming obselete.
and
2. languages like Ruby are a better bet than .NET and more ripe for major innovations.
