If you popup the tooltip and then redraw the contents directly under the tooltip client area before the tooltip is removed from the screen you will get the old contents and not the updated rendering.

I invested in a custom solution for the following reasons:-

1] It is trivial to make it appear and behave the same.
2] You can now create a whole host of specialised tooltips ie. the color picker in PaintShop Pro.
