We've all been spoiled in the US, me included until recently. I've always wanted a manly SUV, but not any more. I don't see the need. On the other hand, this is a big country and people want to travel in a roomy powerful cars if they can.
Only when gas prices go up or supply run low like in the mid 70's do Americans even start thinking about fuel conservation. Now that the gas prices seems to be stablizing, we don't hear the complaints as much as we did 3-4 weeks ago. Infact I think people are use to paying $2.60/gal now.
FWIW: My dream car is Audi A6. What a beautiful machine.:)
