I understand completely. The policy I mentioned is enforced across the board to all employees equally.

>Tracy, what you are referring to may be the case for whatever companies you've dealt with, but nothing of this sort is in the MS employee guidelines and to insist on this was highly unusual and without written precedence....*that* is my point.

>>Our basic rule is that any medical appointments must be made up during the same pay period regardless of whether or not the employee is salaried or hourly. If that cannot be done then the employee must take sick leave, vacation time, or time off without pay. This rule applies to everyone because some hourly employees cannot exceed production quotas or output and simply answer the phones, etc so they cannot make up the production instead of make up the time. I agree to it since as a developer I work extra hours regularly anyway. It is an option for the employee.

>>>My point wasn't the legality, per se, but the fact that it was highly unusual for MS to nickel-and-dime FTEs that way - as you know. Micromanaging at it's finest!

>>>>I'm not sure you're correct on this one (and it may be something determined at a state level). Certainly, an employer is under no obligation to pay an employee for sick time off. However, an employee is entitled to a certain amount of unpaid leave if that employer does provide for the sick leave.
