Craig,
I thought the quick launch bar was the section of the 'Start' bar that is by default between the Start button and the 'open application buttons'. Anywho.
Yes I do know that the text inthat button will be whatever is in the title bar of the app and that part works, but when several apps are grouped together (because there are too many apps open) the text disapears for my application (but the text is there for Microsoft Outlook).

Are we talking about the same thing?

For those instances I also have a button in the 'Start' bar but the button only has my very pretty icon in it and the text 2 and a down arrow. I guess there should be a question now. How can I get some text in the 'Start' bar button?
