>>I was around when these guys were first getting started. I started getting into them again recently and I'm amazed at how good they really were. I still listen in wonderment whenever I drive through a college campus and hear students blaring out Whole Lotta Love or Stairway to Heaven. I can still play most of their best known stuff on guitar, but one of my favorites is Over the Hills and Far Away.

>Yes I was around at that time. My night club went from Tamla and Soul to Metal practically overnight, and we all head banged away :-)

>Whol lotta love's guitar riff was the basis for the BBC's decade-spanning premier pop show, "Top of the Pops" for more years than I can recall.

>Interesting how that era spawned several bands with names of improbable flying objects. Can't remember most now but Iron Butterfly was one. Anyone recall any others?

Not really the name of the band, but, Pink Floyd was famous for their flying pig balloon at concerts.
