The search can be made on all columns, if needed. Check LocateExpr, SeekExpr and ScriptExpr properties in sample form.

I think that is some extra work that I've done with it (how to use in grids, I believe). I can send you the las version if you test it and it is what you need.
It can also have a command button at the end of the list which can execute command to add a new item, if nothing is found.
