When I was in France (80s) I absolutely loved it. However, the streets in the cities were filthy and all of the vehicles had yellow headlights! The country roads were very nice though and the people out there very friendly. I drove in around Nederland in the 80s as well - I went to Den Haag a couple of times. It was the closest to being in the states of all the countries I've visited. They actually had round door knobs!
