Have you built both .NET and VFP database apps from the ground up? Are they in production? If so, can you give an honest comparative analysis with as much detail as you can? Yes, I have.
I've been building Fox/VFP apps since 1988, with awards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and citations from a Fortune 500 company for a huge ROI on an application I wrote for them.
As far as .NET goes, I'm working on app #7...I've converted financial applications from VFP to .NET/SQL/Crystal, and have also built some from the ground up. I've also written a free .NET framework.
It took me a while to get as comfortable with .NET as I was with VFP. Part of it was the learning curve itself, part of it was because I initially fell into the category that JVP described...excessively tied to the Fox way of doing things. I'm in my 4th year of .NET. I'm doing work for multiple .NET clients right now, including a large bank.
I can give details, but I'd wind up typing all day and it might not answer anything. If you have specific questions, I'd be happy to answer them.
