I am thinking possibly Unix because as far as I'm aware application server is based around Java which is developed to run on the Unix platform. However it seems very hard to get good Unix people and I don't think the cost is justifiable for the database and application I have in mind.

Hi, David

It's been my experience that Oracle runs better on UNIX than Windows. However, you do have an alternative - Linux. I just finished building a 64-Bit Oracle server using SUSe Linux 9.3 and Oracle10g Release 1 and the installation was fairly easy compared to when I did the same thing with Oracle8i on RedHat 8. If this is the route you want to go then let me know and I can point you to some good resources.
