>>Who said anything about evil intentions? I know of people who's views are decidedly racist, but feel they are contributing "to those poor people" by helping out. You can be racist and still care. I also said they could justify it to themselves; not to me.

>So you're saying that some people help others because they feel that they are superior then those that they "help"? If so, what do you think about affirmative action and particularly at major universities?
That is true. Some people do do that. Others do it because they really care, but can still be racist. Racism isn't alway about hate. Affirmative action... There is a convoluted concept. I think it's intention was ok on the outset, but I'm also a believer of the best person for the job. The goal of affirmative action - as I understand it - was to give opportunities to minorities and hopefully change the hiring practices of those hiring where race made a difference. I do think it has done that at one level, but at another it has allowed less qualified people into positions where there were more qualified people available. There is definately is not a clear cut solution to that. I believe that minorities should be given the same opportunities, but the beliefs of the person hiring will definately affect that. The rules of affirmative action were designed to help overcome that, but it's definately not perfect.
