I was making $50k 10 years ago and it was very tough. This salary would prohibit you from going to any of the nicer restaurants in the area. In the area of LA I live in rents are in the $1250 - $1350 range for a one bedroom. These are apartments built in the 1940s and are very big. I've heard of 3-4 people moving into one of these.
I lived in San Diego for a few years when I first got to CA in 1989. I think there's a lot more of this there then in LA. I remember searching for a new gig down there and sent my resume into a similar ad then didn't mention salary at all.
I got a call from someone at that company a couple weeks later and she sounded slightly embarrassed to discuss the job with me. The salary range was something like 19k to 25k/year.
Due to the influx of foreign immigrants to Southern CA, I'm sure they are able to find someone to fill the position at that salary. Wether they come close to meeting the requirements is another story.

>In my "LA" -- (L)ouisville (A)rea -- this rate would only be so-so but doable if nothing else. Couldn't imagine it being liveable in L.A. however. OK, Angelinos... any comments?
