I think that from an C/S aspect, most apps are not going to use
either of these options. There's parsing languages out there that are
much more powerfull and easier. Java and ActiveX, IMHO, are now
distributing the load back to the client. While this is good from a
server standpoint, it makes me nervous that any old idiot could be
running code on my machine! I foresee these things as being
extentions to HTML, rather than replacing a CGI type server
interface. Michel may be right, they'll do the fancy stuff.

At the MS conference that I was at, they demo stuff like "Mr Eggplant
Head" that enabled your user to put a pair of lips anywhere on the
screen, a car demo that enabled the user to change the perspective
(i.e look to the right at the center console, look at the fabric on
the inside roof, turn around into the back seat, etc. ) a VRML done
with ActiveX. Not one of them had anything like data entry and
queries. It could be usufull in screen level validation of forms,
however (checking for non-numeric characters, valid state
abbreviations, etc.). I'm told they were also doing some cool stuff with
Office 97 and the web, but I didn't see that seminar, so I can't
really comment on that.
