John,

I could not agree more with your reasoning. Personally, I have been specializing in a few tools: VFP, SQL Server and Crystal Reports (though I'm capable of doing things on a less expert level in other languages like C/C++). If I have to do some internet stuff for a client, I call the help of another developper who specializes in .NET/Python/Java(script). I simply cannot afford learning many languages. I'm keeping an eye on the development of .NET, but really more passively than actively.

Even if I look at my programming skills in VFP, I have specialized. I do not know much of how to handle internet stuff within VFP, but talk about processing data and I'm your man. And really that specialisation is portable to other languages. I do use this knowledge on SQL Server as well.

Walter,
