That statement implies that most developers are lying when they say it :) There are not many developers that can know even one language (technology) to a level of expert let alone several languages (technologies) to a sufficent expert level in order to be able to "choose the right tool" between them. Most developers are earning a living and they sell their abilities, whatever that is for them.

Those developers that are truly expert in more than one dev tool / technology are smart enough to get the best jobs without resorting to cliched catch phrases. The rest will be outsourced in due course to the hordes of high school students who are learning .Net en masse and will in short order have sufficient experience (or numbers) to entice most .Net jobs to India, China, Eastern Europe,... :) The average coding job is going to become like the average manufacturing job ...
