Unfortunately, I don't think this statement is that true. Dotnet and SQL makes you eminently employable.

I speak from experience. I don't have to use the phrase "I expect". I just finished interviewing over a 2 month period. My goal was to hire 2 folks. One with a fair amount of accounting expertise and at least a decent programmer. And one who was extremely technical.

The second job was extremely difficult to fill. Everyone I interviewed who I felt was extremely qualified, had both VFP and dotnet on their resume. The one supposition on my part is that these people interviewed for a VFP position because they didn't want any length of time between contracts and they were in the process of finishing up one.

The results were that at least one candidate found a dotnet gig and turned down our offer. We did hire one of these folks who had a year or so of dotnet along with a long career in VFP. He was getting many cell phone calls and I could tell they were recruiters. He lasted a week. He got a great offer for a dotnet gig. A couple others thought that because of their experience they could make some demands of us that were unacceptable.

From discussion with others, the dotnet market is very hot right now. Salaries are very good to excellent for well skilled folks. And has been discussed before, VFP experience lends itself well to dotnet. In some cases better then experience with VB6.

So, at least from my point of view, at this point in time it is easy to get reimbursed for the amount of time and effort to learn dotnet. The quality of dotnet jobs is vastly superior to VFP jobs right now.
