What happens if you UNCHECK the default "Display PDF in Browser" setting in Adobe under Edit/Preferences/Internet? vice versa?

You could try a hypertext link to the file instead. Something along the lines of:
< a href = " [ location of your PDF file ] " > Your PDF name </a>
