Well, the user might decompile the application.

Other than that, I also think that limiting the number of records is the safer route - if you limit by date, the user can change the date and continue using the application. At least, for some applications this works.

You might put a limit of 100 records in any table; most real-life systems need more than 100 records, at least in some table, to do any reasonable work.

Or, you might put a lower limit in some critical tables, like the parts table, or the clients table.
