This message has been marked as the solution to the initial question of the thread.
In the RegEdit goto the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\9.0\Options key and blank out Data for Value Name '_STARTUP'. It will prevent Task Pane from starting when VFP start.

> I got a copy of VFP9 to look at. I am trying to install it on to my XP Pro computer. I installed the prerequises, and did the install with everything. But when I got to start it, the first thing it does is try to connect to the internet. This computer does not connect to the internet or any other computer until I physically connect wires to it. But at this point, startup of VFP9, the program hangs and I can not exist unless I go to task manager and end it there. I let the program, VFP9, run over night, thinking, it would time out of what ever it was trying to do and I could close it nicely in the morning. No luck. I had to kill it this morning before coming into work.
