>>In a word, yes. But that wasn't really my point. My point is why should this one particular industry be inoculated against lawsuits? To me this shows our political system at its worst -- ruled by money and connections. The NRA might be the most powerful lobby in Washington.

>This is the start of industries being protected against lawsuits. You just found out that gun manufactures are protected, but did you know that a bill is in the processing of being passed that protects places like McDonalds from being sued also. I think this is being done to clean up the courts from some very frivolous lawsuits. Guns like hamburgers are lawful to make and to sell. You will see other industries being protected against lawsuits in the future.

I mean I have no control over what I am doing right? At least that seems to be what society seems to think. No one has personal responsibility for anything they do.

>Just my two cents.
Of course people are responsible for their own behavior. Lawsuits against McDonald's for making people fat are silly. However, I don't think banning lawsuits is the solution. Anyone can sue over about anything in this country. That doesn't mean they will win. What this gun bill (which Bush will undoubtedly sign) is essentially saying is gun manufacturers are presumed innocent in all cases, regardless of the facts or merits of that particular case. Actually it's beyond "presumed innocent" -- you can't even sue them. I don't agree with that.
We have always had the right to make fools of ourselves in this country and I would hate to see that given up (trying for a little levity).
