Stephen, IMHO if you (or anybody else for that matter) going to learn a new language you'd probably want to consider Java I see learning VJ as a pretty good bet FOA VJ is an MS tool, they are sure to upgrade it with the latest technology they have becuase they see Java in all as a serious threat so they would want to draw any java develper to windows OTOH Java is not only tied to the MS wagon, so you still have all your options open should anything happen, it is an OO language , it is more productive than C++ and it has many similarities to VFP <g> Arnon > >I would have been far happier had they simply made the development environment more stable. I'm really tired of all the GPFs that happen with what I consider far to great of frequency. > >As for the rest of it, I'm sure I'll be using it for years to come. Granted there are many companies who will follow M$ down the VB path but I've found that there still exist companies who don't mind VFP and are developing some rather sizeable apps with it. Will I be learning other stuff......I'm sure I will although I'll probably be leaning towards C++ rather than VB. I can't see going from an OOP tool to one that is not. If VFP dies tomorrow, I'll just take my relational database experience and go learn Oracle and my OOP knowledge and learn C++. > >If we spend the time building quality VFP apps when its the right tool to use, then there will be plenty of good examples for other businesses to look at, marvel at and then at least take stock of VFP for their potential development. If we spend the time moaning all the time, then that's a waste of our time. M$ is going to do what suits them.....and that's make $$. Sure, let's tell Mr. Green when they really screw up and leave out a good development product from the mix, >but let's not get carried away with thinking we are going to change the philosophy of development at M$. > >Steve
