The US government is mandating a switch to digital, which will eliminate free over-the-air TV. It's really outrageous and a gift to the companies that provide for-pay TV.

You may be right. That hadn't occurred to me. Maybe then it makes sense for the Government to subsidize the converter. A few bucks out, megabucks in.
