Very well said.

>Wow, i dont know where to begin. Perhaps everyone other than the Bush admin and diehard supporters are sick of the frequently touted "fact" that we have "turned another corner" w/ this debacle. The wishful implication of the Iraqi vote(s) on the part of the admin is that things are getting better. But, did you see the footage of the car & truck bombs this morning? Did you know that US casualties will probably today pass 2000 soldiers? Were you aware that our military reports that there MAY be just ONE Iraqi platoon ready for combat since we've been there? And some people may be indicted this week for blowing the cover of a CIA agent because they were trying to punish someone who had told the world that the Niger story (and the related forgeries)... pushed hard by this admin to sell the war... were BS?

>The media does report on these votes, but also stating the fact that the whole thing is a cluster of enormous proportions and will remain so for many years is also part of the story.
>
>To paraphrase John Stewart... "That darned liberal media... they never cover the stories of the cars that dont blow up."

>>The major mostly-liberal media in the US has been collectively holding its breath, hoping for a defeat. (Good news in Iraq is bad news for Bush's opponents.) You're right that this is very newsworthy, but just watch how the liberal media paint it in some kind of negative light. (For example, you might see something like this: Despite overwhelming opposition by Sunnis, Iraqi voters narrowly approved the constitution, but Sunni leaders immediately questioned the validity of the vote-counting. Insert quote from mad Sunni leader here. Experts on Iraqi culture say that this vote is likely to lead to all-out civil war. Insert another negative quote here. Civil war or continued unrest would be a major blow to the Bush administration, which is increasingly on the defensive about its lack of planning for countering an amazingly-successful insurgency. Another negative quote from anti-Bush spokesperson. Blah, blah, blah.
>>
>>See how easy it is to turn a very positive development into something that sounds very bad? Another useful tactic is to report the news, but downplay it or bury it behind other, more negative, news.

(On an infant's shirt): Already smarter than Bush
