I went ahead a created vcx for the ocx controls. I am able to reuse my PRG define class:
DEFINE CLASS myOleControl as vcxOleControl of vcxOlecontrol.vcx
This allows me to leave the class methods as are in my PRG "DEFINE CLASSes". Still, not as seemless as simply defining the oleclass in an addObject. Also - I was not able to combine ocx classes into a single vcx. Will test on a clean system tomorrow.
