OK, so there's a Visual Fortran and I now recall that someone has a Visual Cobol or even a Cobol.NET. OK, cool...but so what? How does that validate/invalidate whether .NET can be used for desktop/Client Server apps?

People can disagree, that's fine - but when person 'A' says that something can't/shouldn't be done, but persons 'B' and 'C' have done it successfully and are willing to talk specifics (in so far as things they legally are allowed to disclose), it begs the question of getting into some specifics.
