Thanks for the code clips. I just realized that I copy-pasted directly from the documentation (version 1.3) and it had a mistake. Here's what shows on the documentation:

DataSet ds = ((mmBusinessObject)this).HostObject.GetCurrentDataSet();

Now my validation is working.
