I assume you want to prevent simple access from elsewhere via odbc or oledb or whatever. But think of who you could fool with that false file extension. I'd say you can only fool people, who wouldn't even know how to get data from .Dbfs. If the data is valuable and someone want's to get at it he'd simply check whats insode the .Dta files and could analyze the header for the file format. Use Cryptor or other tools to encrypt data.
