Working at Microsoft must be like visiting a granparent that always has the heater turned too high. As soon as more youthful prospects fill the the executive suites, we are sure to see a profittable move towards easing these restrictions. Most of us are not on the MS Seminar bus - we write applications - and an opening of the Linux market would put money in our pockets - but - for the guys and gals in the logo blazened polo shirts - it would mean re-tooling - they would actually have to work again - and they like watching "Golden Girls" at granny's house and being all warm and cozy!

A year, or so, ago many FUGs were anticipating Whil Hentzen to drop in, talk about wine and VFP and give us the scoop. We were all excited - it was as exiting as the releases of OOP xbase - of course the "we" that were exited did not sell NET add on's, services or seminars - the "we" were developers looking to expand markets.

Anyway - about the time Whil was going to set us free, he gets a call from "the man's" attornies. It seems the EULA for VFP 7 and later had anticipated this stuff, and Whil was warned - that even though the EULA made no specific restriction - Big Brother was willing to take him to court and drown him in debt. The law is for those who can afford it!

I don't know if there is an issue with VFP 6 - but despite the clamps - and the evil prince in the dungeon where the torture never stops - some are still working on the wine project.

The government is moving to Linux - JPL has - there are 100$ wind up laptops powered by BDE on a flash card being readied for the thirdworld. If we don't get what we need from home - someone overthere will make it for us.

There are shops like FLagship and dBase in Europe that are growing a technology that we can adapt too - it is getting better by the day - and MS stock is declining by the day - so we wait - will the innovators at microsoft be set free to help us grow our market - or do they swim in the hubris of world domination and drown. Get the resesitators ready!:-)
