I do pretty much the same thing with a back-end process that takes a file-based message and generates a zip file. I don't use a messaging DBF because once the name of the to-be-generated file is known:
- The name can be passed back and forth (along with the counter of the number of trips) in the querystring sent between browser and server using the URL in the meta-refresh tag
- Once the web app detects actual existence of the zip file, then instead of generating a page with a meta-refresh tag, it simply generates a page with a hyperlink to the file.
