Terry you may not know that I am a real supporter of open source and Linux in general. But I find that a programming environment that comes close to VFP does not currently exist.

Starting with ReKall:
Is has come a long way since it went GPL. But still difficult to work with. It also uses Python (which is very close to VFP in many ways). But Python lacks a easy way to process data. Access to data is similar to SPT but working with 'list' and 'dict' (python types) is not my way of thinking. BTW if you like REKall please check out DABO. Dabo is written in Python by two long time VFP programmers and they want it to match VFP.

Flagship is just the old clipper.

Recital has some nice features but lacks a real GUI.

XDB is nothing but a C++ lib to access data.

Next:

All though in general I do not like the basic's syntax the following are lang's I have been following:

Gambas - Linux only. Version two has access to data and matches much of the VB6 stuff. Some differences but a good match and has many bugs still. But has a IDE that allows building of forms, classes, and modules. Uses both QT and GTK. This has promise.....

Realbasic -Windows,Mac's, and Linux - $400.00. Has a very large following (mostly Mac people). Has IDE similar to VB6 and more. I like it but the current Linux is in Beta... With some issues with Linux processor use....I have to use 'nice'.

There are other solutions but most lack a real RAD like VFP.
But they work well.
check out what LinuxCanada did with C++ for Quasar. One of the fastest accounting interfaces I have ever seen. Using the interface three thousand away from the source was almost un-believeable.
