>Far from it. I think my original comment specified 12 resolutions, not 12 UN countries - and it was irony. My agreement was specifically to the fact that all options, whether it be acting alone or acting in unison with the UN are dangerous. None of the options are safe either for its soldiers and citizens or from criticim. Ideally all UN members would support any legitimite governments right to defend itself against a foreign or domestic threat (that leaves out tyrants, dictators, fascists, governments that abuse human rights, etc). I will support this country's right to defend itself whenever the safety of its borders or its citizens is threatened with or without the UN's support. Update - That is why I served so many years in the military. Also, contrary to public opinion, I am for compulsary service (either in the military or the peace corps or some other public service and for both sexes)

Robert Heinlein (Starship Trooper - a poltical and philosophical book where the Bug-Eyed-Monsters are secondary) felt that citizenship was not a "right" but something to be earned by public service. I'm not sure I agree completely but it's not the worst idea I have ever heard.
