I am not sure what the true motivation for invading Iraq was or is but there is something that bothers me about the incident. After the invasion and various things came to light different rationalizations were given by the administration as to why we were in Iraq. It was as if the administration was trying to find “the right story”, that is a story that was acceptable to the majority. WMD became democracy for Iraq.

What happened to the WMD? First Rumsfeld said (two weeks before the invasion) that all WMD’s had been moved to Libya and Syria. Then the search continued for about one year trying to find WMD’s. Fabricated stories kept up the interest and belief that WMD’s existed. Then there are the stories of the terrorists training camps in Iraq. Those were not found.

I do not think that we will ever know the truth but this event is one that can change history for better or worse! You believe whatever story that is acceptable to you and it is likely that you will not change how you feel.

How is it that democrats and republicans were behind the presidents decision to invade Iraq? I think it was the feeling of the moment with 911 fresh in our memories that the motivation was created. We had to punish someone and we were pointed in a specific direction.

They blame the president for not arming the troops properly. Even today the troops do not have adequate armament. What about the congress? Don’t they have a lot to do with appropriations for the military? Personally, I am disgusted at the entire lot of politicians regardless of political affiliation! There is no voice that represents the American people. Too many politicians are self-serving. Many Americans want to “get even” for 911.

Perhaps in the future we will find out more about this topic, its cause and effect. That may be many years down the road though.

I think if I stop watching the news I will feel better. :)
