That is a good question! Maybe they built multi facility out houses so we city slickers would wonder about such things and laugh at us! I will have to ask my cousin if they really used the facility for more than one person at a time.
Speaking of outhouses: My dad was about 14 when his community (Ukiah, Oregon) experienced its coldest day or record. 58 below zero F. I think I would pass up any needs of nature that day for fear of not being found until Spring thaw! :)
