I've worked out what the problem was; VFP9 stores printer set-up information in the report itself, so it was actually trying to print on the printer I'd originally set-up the reports on some 7 years ago. VFP had stored the printer name, which had long since disappeared, so I had to remove the tick from the checkbox in the report set-up.
