Thsi may be true, but I have used other companies products and found them too to be buggy. At least MS produce free service packs. Most of the others make me wait for the next version, and make me buy the fixes (and new bugs).

>I have been using Microsoft development tools for many years. The running joke (especially when Microsoft bought FoxPro) was, the feature and stability you want will either be in a service pack or an upcoming version. It was as if we had less than a full deck to work with and that was the norm.

>When the first version of Visual Studio Dot NET was about to be sent to production Steve Ballmer said that the product would not be released until it was ready. There were many issues with quality and this was something I enjoyed hearing: Microsoft wants to ship a solid product!

>Well, as you know Microsoft has released Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. Already I have notices that service packs will be available and when they will be released. People are complaining about problems and I just wonder why Microsoft keeps to a schedule to release a product that is not solid.

>I guess that old software adage, “First to market” is still in Microsoft’s heart – make that head. We are a relatively captive audience as software developers using Microsoft tools and products. Perhaps the Microsoft division or group that produced these two new products has to show a profit by a certain date. That is understandable. Microsoft has a business plan and we are a part of it. Oh well, nothing is “perfect”.

>Some developers will find no problems with these new Microsoft products and some will. Patience is everything. Some day software will be “perfect”! :)
