Memory usage seems to rise when forms are opened, but not drop back again to the level prior to opening the form when that form is closed. Is there something I should be doing to make sure memory is released apart from releasing forms ?

Are you sure that none of your forms have dangling object reference? Do you call lots of reports in your application?
