There is a term I remember from the 1960’s. Ugly American. All Americans were ugly, self centered, rich, indifferent to the poor of the world, and self-indulgent.

Our daughter spent the last two summers in France, Germany and England, attending school. According to her she was not comfortable when people found out that she was from the United States. Many people were impolite, at a minimum and threatening at the maximum. So she learned to not tell anyone where she was from.

Perhaps things have improved since September?
