Perry, during our lifetimes we'll see more and more manufacturing and services provided out of Asia. That's the only way to prop up our standard of living. Some regard this as a latter-day "occupation" in which foreign powers take control of our vital supplies, increasing dependency and reducing self governance. Lets hope that the current occupiers suffer the traditional fate of occupiers (assimilation) or else our kids and grandkids may curse us for the independence we are selling cheaply to buy nicer refrigerators and TVs.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
