Not exactly. Are you concerned that the file treatment might have performance implications? I don't think the xml ever makes it into file form, it's just a "trick". Not resourcey but resourceful.
But if you want to find out for sure, download and turn on a utility called Filemon from
www.sysinternals.com. It will tell you anything that is going on with files in your system and it has some filtering capabilities.
