We only have two, but their members come in several flavors. Dems regularly cross party lines on votes, and vice versa. It is not black and white. For years after the Civil War, anyone labelled a Republican stood no chance of winning in the South. But the region was still very conservative, and "Southern Democrat" meant any Democrat from the South that could be counted on to vote conservative.
