>>Not yet. A prospective customer asked me if I could write an interface to communicate with a device connected to RS232 serial port. So far, this is all I know. I am trying to compile a list of questions I need to ask them and also understand conceptually what is involved in writing such interface using VFP 9.

>The nice thing about VFP (and the command window) is that you could instanciate (create the object) MSCOMM32.OCX from the command window and work through the details of the connection and testing before you committ to writing a "formal" program. I had to connect to truck scales for one project. I was able to pfish out the connectivity and transactions (and see the results) by simply driving MSCOMM32.OCX at the dot prompet - err - command window.

Thank you for your input, Terry.
I read a couple of reference documents and it does seem to be fairly straight forward to work with this .ocx. I hope I will get the job and actually put it to work.
