However, there is no way I am going to believe a man would not have received jail time in a similar situation. Very likely you're right.
Had this gone to trial, I think it's likely she would have done jail time. (And she deserves jail time). The boy's parents were just looking out for their son and didn't want all the ugly details to come out.
Given all the details that have been published on this case, I highly doubt the insanity defense would have worked. "Profound emotional issues" is hardly a defense for her actions.
