I think right now, in terms of dealing with Iran's nuclear ambitions, USA is doing the right thing by putting pressure on the international community (UN, EU, etc.) so that they realize the great danger of ignoring Iran. This has nothing to do with "spreading democracy." I think Bush administration has learned a lesson (even though they won't admit it) from many mistakes in Iraq. So I don't think USA will even think about "spreading democracy" in Iran or any other country in the world for a long time. However, this does not diminish the great danger to the world if Iran develops nuclear weapons. Iran may never have guts to use them but they have plenty of crazy "friends' who will be happy to go on a "super" suicidal mission with a nuclear weapon.

The point you made in your reply to John was that Iran's nuclear ambitions is strictly Israel's problem and they should and could deal with it. Unfortunately many governments share this point of view too, which I think is a big mistake.
