Thanks for the response. I think you see the problem. The object property is .NULL. before I set it to another valid value. But when I try to set it back to .NULL. (or .F., or space(0), or 0, or even back to it's own saved value) VFP gives me a data type mismatch error.

I wish someone could tell me what NOTHING does. According to the documentation for the object property I need to set it equal to NOTHING to clear it.
