>>Culture, politics, and location seem to be everything. At the time, you didn't dare voice disagreement with it here. Everyone was for it. However, in Grand Junction, CO it was much like your area with the majority against it and they vocalized their dissent loudly.

>Not by a long shot. Everyone was in agreement to go into Afghanistan, nobody would voice an objection to that. Iraq was another story, hardly a "slam dunk" with the public.
J.
I seem to recall the Russians tried to have a military presence in Afghanistan. Afghanistan was a risky business for the United States. It also seems that we enlisted the aid of specific groups of Afghans, and they did much of the fighting.
Enter Iraq: Gee, Afghanistan was a breeze! What was with those Russians? We can do anything! Who needs large numbers of troops? Who needs Iraqi groups opposed to those in power? We can go it “alone”!
We will bring freedom and democracy to Iraq all by ourselves. We do not need any Iraqi assistance. We will use a few token forces from other countries however, showing the world that we have many countries in agreement with our military/political position! Who cares what the Iraqis want? This is all about freedom and democracy!
Tis a mess!
