Im trying to build a report. In a field I write the expression

sum amount for month(somedate)=7

This gives me a syntax error message, however this expression runs fine in the command window.
What am I doing wrong?

Also, what would be the best method to build a report that shows product sales in monthly columns
both for a fiscal year and/or a range of dates?
