The Master Race and other terms to describe a German are interesting. Especially when you consider that Prussia was originally inhabited by Slavic people.

>>I've love to find a book on the complete history of Germany. From before the time of the Romans to modern times. I don't understand why they weren't swimming in the same direction as the rest of Western Europe. They clashed with much of Europe twice in the 20th century. Even since the time of Charlemagne, they've been obsessed with a greater Germany.

>It would be interesting, but there really wasn't a "Greater Germany" between the breakup of the Holy Roman Empire and the reunification under Bismark in 1870. Until then, it was a bunch of independant kingdoms. They would go to war with each other on a regular basis.

>According to a book I just read on the War of Austrian Succession, the kingdom of Prussia was a highly militarized state. That carried over into the creation of the German Empire, and may have helped contribute to the Kaiser's willingness to go to war. But (IMHO) Germany was going in the same direction as the rest of Western Europe. The whole pack of them were just itching to get at each other's throats. Franz Ferdinand's assasination was just the starting gun.

>>Though it is a bit of a slow movie, interesting insight into him and his people in the last 10 days of the assault on Berlin.
