I used to wear shirt and tie (no coat) nearly every day, until one day one of my favorite bosses in Hawaii threatened to cut off my tie. :) I had quite a tie collection. Lizards, leopards, planets, plants. Since then, I wear ties only on interview day and most days I opt instead for polo shirts.

Programmers operate on the left side of the brain, work in the back boom, eat Twinkies and Jolt cola. Many have trouble talking with people anyway in anything other than assembly language, C and Foxpro :). Right-brain non-technical social people can wear their apparel of social status like feathers on a peacock if they want, but I've learned it doesn't help me write code.

And if I can't drink coffee at the desk, how can I write code?
