Well, had I put a tie on, I'd surely feel I was lying. I've worn one only when forced by rules of the office (i.e. as a conscript and when I played a significant role at two weddings). Other than that, if I put a suit or tie on, I'd feel like an impostor, like pretending I'm someone else, not who I really am. >
>OK. If that's how you personally would feel, fine, but I don't view it as lying.

>My client in NYC (a financial organization) has a strict dress code that includes ties for males. My contacts there know that I don't dress that way when I work out of my office (and since they don't make the rules, they envy me!). I certainly don't view that as being an impostor in any way, and I doubt that many would either.

>(I save that word for deliberate acts, like telling a client that I have experience that I don't, etc.)
I take it they do appreciate the effort, then.
As I said in the other message to Tamar, that's just me - I'd really feel like I was lying. I'm actually amazed at myself, how did I manage to avoid that sort of situation throughout my adult life :).
