Work boots are what mechanics had to wear in the shop, in the army, they are steel-toed boots for protecting the feet. Ammo handlers may have to wear them also, because of the possiblity of a crate of ammo or single round falling and getting them in the foot.
So your foot would be fine but you'd be blown to bits :-)
